čudan

Extremely comfy textboard.

Western Textboards

Let's list all western textboard that are spread around the web.

Here's all I could find.

= čudan -- textboard.lol =

YOU ARE HERE

Other textboards (from least pleasant to most pleasant -- based on activity, concept, content, design, admin sanity -- highly opinionated):

= Secret Area of VIP Quality -- secretareaofvipquality.org =

Some cancer dump with garbage content and no HTTPS.

Probably shouldn't be on this list, but technically it's a textboard.

= The Elitist Superstructure of DQN @ 4-ch -- textboard.dynu.com =

Same as previous, but content is slightly better.

= neetBBS -- bbs.neet.tv =

Nice idea and design is a bit refreshing in a minimalist sense.

But the BBS is barely alive, dumped with niggerish gibberish, posting is broken as for now.

= FanBBS -- www.fanbbs.net =

Fan works focused BBS. It runs on a brushed up Kareha with nothing special added.

Pretty dead. Posting is not working, the newest replies are from like 2017.

= Tinychan -- tinychan.net =

Quite interesting forum. It's not purely anonymous, it offers registration. Thus, it's crowded with namefags.

Posting system is almost impassable. And jewgle captcha... yikes!

Tynichan structure is rich and interesting, bla-bla-bla, but certainly excessive BLOAT.

These are not really the innovation I prefer to have.

Also.
Why is font size so small? I can barely see text on my QHD monitor.

= The Transient Textboard -- textboard.net =

Too much rules, didn't read, hence didn't even care posting there.

I didn't lost too much, though, since a quick review of the threads shows the board activity is near to 0.

The structure of The Transient Textboard is like on IBs. Visual design is kinda cute as for a tranny.

= World4ch -- dis.4ct.org =

Modernized Kareha is quite pretty, but seems like this BBS has seen better times. The content is boring and cancer. Posting is very slow.

= freesoftwarefoundation.org =

Quite active 2channel-style BBS. It has a comfy NES theme and some other nice stuff, too.

But it has no visible concept except for domain name, even the BBS name is not defined anywhere in HTML.

= Bienvenido a Internet (BaI) -- bienvenidoainternet.org =

I don’t know Spanish and I have no idea what’s going on at this large BBS.

The international English-language /world/ is cancer and almost dead.

Design is not bad -- at least they have pretty dark theme.

BaI is not a plain textboard, but rather a web portal. It incorporates a lot of things like radio, video streaming, Mastodon and Matrix servers, etc. Also several futaba-style boards, so no trve kvlt.

= channel4 -- 4-ch.net =

One of the ancient survivors. You can find alive threads from 2005 there. Community is quite active as for a textboard.

It has a variety of boards and additinal services like IRC.

Still, oldschool Kareha is a bit limiting.

= danger/u/ -- dangeru.us =

Design is too hipster, therefore fucked up. The BBS is definitely active, especially for a textboard, but filthy weeb spirit emanates from the area.

Didn't spend too much time there, because its fonts are pain to read.

= SchemeBBS -- textboard.org =

Admin is a literal SJW who likes to discuss "inclusion" in programming, would ban for saying nigger whatsoever.

Despite being written in a toy language by a presumably hardcore programming geek, the engine is very basic and rather buggy. Yes-yes, it's because of 'muh minimalism', not because of a dev's skill issue.

Design is rather simplistic, but fine. However, the theme is extremely light, as if it's made for hardcore 1990's Microsoft Office boomers. Switching to other themes is of course broken.

There are some good things about SchemeBBS, though. For example, it's not weeb, it's relatively active on bizarre /prog/ topics, no bloat (in any sense).

Also this BBS proves that having a "textboard" in domain name is da best "SEO" strategy, lol.

= textbunker -- textbunker.net =

Admin claims he's not SJW, but still word-filters "nigger". Nonetheless, the admin is angry at 4chan's "lust provoking image + time-wasting question question" formula, which is a good point.

Threads are fine, but navigation and design are ugly, engine is raw as fuck. IRC chat is broken or something.

No weeb topics/categories and it's good. And actually this textboard is trying into conspiracy/survival theme. Not sure if succeeds: /general/ and /tech/ still have most replies.

Oh, also:

>Copyright © 2023 textbunker.net all rights reserved.
Should I prepare my lawyers, lol.

= Strange World@Heyuri -- ayashii.net =

Anon there is cute, engine is quite decent (rework of the original Strange World engine).

New posts appear daily in a chatty manner.

Well, design is not your usual 2channel-like and definitely not for everyone.

Also, should be noted that it's a part of bigger web resource called Heyuri, most part of it is a typical weeb imageboard.

Honorable mention: The Xiongnu Confederation Overtext -- xiongnu.org/overtext/

textbunker.net:

textbunker is meant to be a hybrid forum/textboard. it allows multimedia embeds and looks like a forum but functions like a textboard.

3

Anonymous:

Multimedia embeds are not compromising textboard nature, I guess. The main thing is that textbunker has a textboard structure and VIBE. Also, the BBS name itself gives some clues.

>looks like a forum
Oh, so these ugly chunks on the home page are meant to copy classical phpBB layout. I got it now.

4

textbunker.net:

it has another theme that i've been working on, it's a lighter theme that has a more foresty green look to it. and the grey blocks are not there in the light theme. it's still being developed though. the site is just something i work on every now and then so it's not exactly a finished product. i know some of the board just dumps text with no html when you encounter an error or do something the site forbids. i need to make some nice error pages.

also not a sjw, i just host the site in the US and don't want to it to be deplatformed. maybe when i find another vps host that is just as cheap and in a better country i will remove the bad work blocker function.

I see. I remember it looked uglier a week or so ago. Good luck with development then.
>don't want to it to be deplatformed
Don't you do backups, bro?
>in a better country
Dunno, I have doubts that you will be banned, if someone posts niggerish on your website. Why are you so anxious about that?

6

Anonymous:

i set the light green theme if you want to check it out. i personally like it better but some of my users prefer the darker one.

>backups
i do them.
>why so anxious about nigger
not really anxious. my host is just a big tech host so all it would take is for someone to complain that it's a "hate speech" site and then it will get shit canned by my host. it sucks i know, but that's the world we live in now.

7

Anonymous:

>>6

>i set the light green theme if you want to check it out. i personally like it better but some of my users prefer the darker one.
I also love darker colors, but now home page looks much more decent. And it starts reminding phpBB, which is probably what you are targeting for.
>my host is just a big tech host
Oy-vey, man, is it AWS or something?

8

Anonymous:

thanks.

>aws
namecheap

>it allows multimedia embeds
It’s just text processing, isn’t it? You manipulate certain text and browser renders that part in a certain funny way.

No pics, videos are saved on the server like on your usual futaba IB.

10

textbunker.net:

No the multimedia is hosted elsewhere. no multimedia is hosted on textbunker.net

special tags are used to embed links to video or images. they are hotlinked basically. all this is done using javascript. the js interprets the tag and then either inserts an iframe (in the case of youtube) or inserts and img src tag (in the case of postimg.cc)

the script is free software so anyone can use it if they like.

11

Anonymous:

>>10

What I wanted to say is that embeds don't transform textboard into something else, right? I see this feature a lot on the established textboards, especially Japanese ones.

Well, embeds are also a default feature of phpBB-like forums, but text-based communication is what textboards and forums have in common. So it's hard to say where a textboard ends and a forum starts, if you are developing a hybrid, in many cases features may simply overlap.

Oh, also sometimes phpBB-like forums allow hosting pics, but it's more of a bonus feature than a core functionality like that of imageboards in the vein of Futaba.

12

textbunker.net:

i hath created the webring script. i added this board to it if thats ok. or of not let me know an i'll remove it.

the webring script is available at https://textbunker.net/webring.php

email me at textbunker@mail.com if you have a website and want to add it.

you can add it to your site like so:
iframe src="http://example.com/webring.php" frameborder="0" scrolling="no" width="100%" height="100"

13

Anonymous:

honestly not sure how you would style it though. might have to work on that a bit. maybe you can apply style to the iframe. not sure.

14

Anonymous:

>>12 >>13
Let me try to play with its style a bit.

15

Anonymous:

>>12

>you can add it to your site like so:
>iframe src="http://example.com/webring.php" frameborder="0" scrolling="no" width="100%" height="100"
Hmm, this creates a frame and fellow website is rendered within a frame if clicked. Looks like a candidate for an overchan if enable scrolling. But probably not like a typical webring stuff.

How do you add it to your footer? With internal PHP?

16

Anonymous:

It’s not possible to access the dom elements inside an iframe only the iframe itself can be styled. I would have to make it spit out some css but that would mean it’s style would be fixed and not changable by anyone but me.

I think in the old days you use to could just use javascript to embed a webring but that’s considered XSS now so it’s blocked by most browsers. Probably one of the reasons webrings died.

We will probably have to do it the low tech way and just create a static html page with all of our links added to the page. Then just put a link to it at the bottom of our sites.

Kinda sucks but that’s all i can think of.

17

Anonymous:

>>16

I see what you intended to do, it would be cool, but static linking also works for me. I think I can just create "Frens" section somewhere in About page and link to your site. This is also an oldschool way, man, almost no one does it anymore.

18

There's https://dis.4ct.org/
It's rather slow and hateful though as textboards go

19

I don't know if any of you niggas ever came across or even heard of ratwires.space since its now defunct but boy I'll tell yah it was a textboard that was way ahead of its time. I'm thinking I might just rewrite the engine on my own in Python instead of the compiled language that was used (the creator used Crystal. Ruby's and C's bastard child). Essentially posts had a limit of 255 before the very top post would get purged never to be archived. In practice this took shitposting to heights none could ever imagine but also made genuine conversation very nice to have every once in a blue moon. The best way I could describe it was like as if you were jotting down bursts of intuitive ideas onto a notebook. Too bad to see it go. According to some intel I gathered from lurking on /g/ apparently some Finns used it to smuggle drugs or some gay shit. But hey it is nice seeing the textboard landscape becoming more active through sites like these o7.

21

Anonymous:

>>20

I saw it mentioned in one of textboard threads on /g/ recently and even saved screenie.png from the repo, because its look stands out from other boomer textboards.

However, the screenshot didn't give the full picture and now your post made me check the webarchive. ratwires.space is actually cached there for everyone interested: https://web.archive.org/web/20211019214943/https://ratwires.space/

Nice takes, lol:

>in 20 years there will be mass suicides caused by zoomer women realising they've utterly destroyed their life by following the most extreme of feminist advice
Nice tree structure, too. Of course, it's reddit, but kinda innovative for a textboard. I saw tree mode only at ayashii.net so far.

I would prefer a textboard with archived threads, though, since hosting KiBs of shitposting text costs close to nothing.
>apparently some Finns used it to smuggle drugs or some gay shit
I think I know the reason. It's Tor. It always enables active drug or pedo or some other illegal shit spamming. Better stick to I2P, if you wanna darknet on your board. More secure, too.
>But hey it is nice seeing the textboard landscape becoming more active through sites like these o7.
The more the better. Good luck with your rewrite.

Interesting, this is my first time hearing about this. I'll check that place out for inspiration.
>I think I know the reason. It's Tor. It always enables active drug or pedo or some other illegal shit spamming. Better stick to I2P, if you wanna darknet on your board. More secure, too.
Never thought about that heh. I know for a fact even with images disabled it can still be a hassle trying to rid the glowbo-hobos spamming your board. I guess better to keep things on the clearnet for now to not raise too much attention.
>Good luck with your rewrite.
thx

23

Anonymous:

i hosted a few boards on tor for a short while. i just wanted to see what would happen. basically just non stop cp and drug spam. maybe only 2 real people showed up to post. every other post was advertising a cp or drug site. tor is like the reddit.com of the dark web. at least use i2p. it takes a bit more knowledge to setup and that acts as a barrier to entry for normie cattle.

24

Anonymous:

>>23

>i just wanted to see what would happen. basically just non stop cp and drug spam
I moderate an IB that's mostly Clearnet, but also provides Tor and I2P access. Well, removing spam posts with Tor links is a daily routine.

And overall spam stats are like:
>Clearnet - Tor - I2P
>1% - 99% - 0%

There’s also dis.tinychan.net, that is a classical 2channel mode textboard. Not bad, they also have /prog/.

Listen here you fucking autistic little nigger, I've been barely tolerating you god damn bullshit always causing drama and trying to play stupid here and having the botfag constantly bitching at me because of you but I've had enough. I'm not letting you spam all my old requests again trying to get me on the shitlist like with your god damn shitty clothed titfuck requests. We are not friends, we have no alliance, you are just as much of a piece of shit as the botfag so just fucking kill yourself already you no life shitstain.

>>1 More textboards detected random order:

- Post Office https://afternoon.dynu.com/letterbox.html -- cute place, rather slow but the design and concept are refreshing
- ninechan https://ninechan.flash.moe -- a dead textboard, running on an original PHP engine; the author said he moved to other projects (probably he means the flashii forum)
- Junkuchan https://junkuchan.org/whitelist/ -- Indian textboard; to be honest, not bad, but fonts could be larger and layout could be fancier
- Uchuu no Kiroku Discussion Board https://uchuu-kiroku.org/bbs/ -- nice colors as for Kareha, but the board is dead; offers a pic sharing service, which is quite innovative; claims to have a mobile version, but it's just like un-CCS'ed HTML
- W3O.net https://w3o.net/boards/txt/forum.html -- wow, large fonts (definitely too large), layout is a bit narrower than usual full width; the BBS doesn't look finished, posting is very slow and content is pure cancer
- Vampiros.ml https://vampiros.ml/internet/ -- Latino board, nice concept and some nice oldschoolish design elements, too; content looks good judging from the text size in posts (I don't know Spanish, tho)
- Kiramoji Message Board https://kiramoji.ga -- vanilla Kareha, nothing special, the website looks abandoned
- Paheal downtime board http://blog.paheal.net/dis/index.html -- an adandoned support textboard of a Rule 34 booru
- Wiki Development Discussion Board http://ro.doddlercon.com/wikidiscussion/ -- an abandoned board of an adandoned Ragnarok Online website
- dakanya channel http://tsubasa.nu/dakanya/ch/ -- an abandoned board of a very old abandoned personal website (last blog post made back in 2005)
