čudan follows kareha in many aspects, the core functionality is merely based on it. However, the point of this engine's existing is that the main composition has been modernized.

Some outdated elements could've been modernized, but they are kept, because they have sovl (e.g., Email field, XML feed). Sovlless retro-elements are removed/updated (e.g., full width text, light theme).

At the end of the day, here's what čudan offers in addition to traditional Kareha:
- tag-based thread navigation
- thread stats and dumps in subback page
- dark (fancy? gay?) theme
- responsive design
- code syntax highlighting -- empowered by prismjs
- short-links to external threads (e.g. @64383fc150739) and posts in external threads (e.g. @64383fc150739->2)
- Atom feed instead of RSS feed (not a great modernization, we know)

Also note that the engine is really raw for now. Maybe, we'll add more features, when we rest and get some more inspiration, or just out of necessity.

In respect to social side, this BBS will try to provide as much freedom of speech as possible. Of course, illegal content will be deleted, as well as other things that prevent normal forum functioning (spam, wipe, etc.). Mistagging will be fixed.

Basically, čudan is another one western 2channel clone that is not intended to be massive. Enjoy it or go away.

Giga-BASED. I shall bookmark this place. Lets see it blossom!

Why do you call it a textboard engine rather than textboard software?

From 9 months ago....

Fog covered up the morning sky covering the dawn sun. It was a while before sunlight could disinfect the fog and its blaze lit the blue.
In the air-conditioned car, it mattered little. Mist or full sun made no difference when the small volume of the car was heated or chilled as needed. People drive in comfort regardless of the outside.
Only passing the orange leaves of various trees indicated that it was autumn.

please fix the lolitards spamming up the board. thx.

I think it's been an architectural mistake to put all data in one json file. Each thread should be stored in a separate file to avoid backend scanning a huge json.

Good that I realized it before it's too late.

Thinking about how to decrease info noise on cudan, I came up with an idea for the data managing script:

Once anything is posted, a script checks for threads with no replies. If such threads are older than 24hr, they are purged.

Discuss.

11

ABE DA REAL 1:

sounds based. that's probably a good way to recycle posts while still pushing up the threads with the most traction. I also think the opposite is nice too. self-deleting threads that have remained bumped for the longest time should theoretically keep the site engagement from newfroggers alive. either way there needs to be a recycling element to any textboard IMO.

why do dead board admins always insist on early 404 (or variations thereof)?? just because a thread didn't get many replies initially means it's not worthy of staying on the catalog. sometimes single reply threads get bumped a week down the line and then see heavy activity at that point. The whole point of a "bump system" on imageboards and textboards is that more engaging threads receive more frequent replies and are bumped more often, whereas less interesting threads tend to naturally make their way further down the catalog. Why interfere with the natural order of things??

13

Anonymous:

your site will look even deader because most of your threads will disappear in a day. i swear admins will just keep merging and cleaning and tweaking the natural order of things because they think it will improve the site. i think things are fine how they are

14

Anonymous:

if you were to improve anything i would suggest adding multiple pages. right now, it's only possible to view the first 10 threads in index view (where the full thread op and the most recent replies can be viewed) and then the rest of the threads can only be browsed in catalog view (where only the subject can be viewed). I'm aware this is standard fare for kareha based boards but it would be nice to have it so that there are multiple pages that can be browsed, so I don't have to open a thread from the catalog every time i want to read the OP of a thread that's not on page 1

This board is not dead and probably as a consequence is constantly flooded with garbage. If shitposters at least keep their garbage structured in threads, it would be fine, but a thread per shitpost is considered a 'wipe' i.e. artificially moving existing threads down and should be removed. I'm just going to automate this.
>just because a thread didn't get many replies initially means it's not worthy of staying on the catalog
Not many, at least one reply.
>The whole point of a "bump system" on imageboards and textboards is that more engaging threads receive more frequent replies and are bumped more often, whereas less interesting threads tend to naturally make their way further down the catalog
It's not intrinsically "*board" system, common phpBB-like forums have it, too. As far as I know, it's rooted in telnet BBSen and Usenet.
>Why interfere with the natural order of things??
It's all made up, lol.

If you want, you can consider this feature an experimental anon replacement for karma system + retention.

I'm totally fine with a slow board, where I don't need to clean garbage and spam daily, because a script does it for me.
>in a day
Could be longer. For example, 74hr or a week. I'll make this customizable.

>>14
I've heard this suggestion before. I will stick to Kareha style, but, maybe, I can make the engine display first message upon hovering the link.

Purging of stale threads is enabled with 72hr retention.

ABE DA REAL 1:

good shit.
am curious, will you ever be adding an admin panel for manual selective deletions/bans?

I'm thinking about that, but shit, I'm so lazy for new frontend. Maybe, some day...

have you considered that sometimes people just like making simple jokes or sharing thoughts throughout their day as seperate threads? if someone wants to effortpost they still can. i for one enjoy reading "shitposts" more than effortposts.

Yes, but anonymous forums are not created to be wiped by schizos, but to discuss things.

>isn't that the very thing most of us come to anonymous mediums to escape?
People come to anonymous media for anonymity. Karma system wasn't even a close thing when people started using textboards and imageboards.
